A Place to Worship Adult

UMYF stands for United Methodist Youth Fellowship. This fellowship is designed for youth from 7th through 12th grades. Our 6th graders join us when they finish with Confirmation each February. Traditionally, UMYF took the form of a regularly scheduled gathering of youth at the church or in someone's home. Each meeting included Bible study and discussion, music, snacks, games, and relation-building time (that's a fancy way of saying "free-time"). It seems that as our society becomes more mobile, UMYF
has become more mobile as well. But, we've kept all of the components:
Bible study and discussion, music, snacks, games, and relation-building
time. We talk about current events, study the Bible, and relate our faith
to life. Sometimes we have Small Group meetings, a service project, or
a "just-for-fun," FUSION activity. Small Groups: (smôl groops) n. 1. A below-average-in-size assemblage of persons. 2. A Broad Street youth program designed to deepen friendships, build community, strengthen faith, and disciple young Christians. Our small groups program is almost a year old and still growing. The
groups meet periodically in homes and at other locations throughout the
community, typically on Sunday evenings. Our six current groups are: Middle
School Girls, Middle School Boys, 9th and 10th Grade Girls, 9th and 10th
Grade Boys, Juniors, and Seniors. FUSION refers to any Broad Street Youth event that is designed for large
groups of youth. Some of our FUSION events require pre-registration. N*Light*N is the Broad Street Youth Choir, made up of over 40 youth from
sixth to twelfth grade. Practice is on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:00.
We share in Sunday morning worship several times a year and take two weekend
trips each year. In February 2007, we traveled to Lake Junaluska, Waynesville,
and Ashville, NC. N*Light*N was blessed to share in worship at Resurrection
2005 in Gatlinburg, TN. They also got to meet Chris Tomlin and his band. We also head off on retreats, mission trips, and special events when the mood strikes us. Well, a few weeks (or months) of planning after the mood hits! We often have a Super Bowl Party, periodic service projects, a Christmas Progressive Dinner, and go on occasional day trips like the Corn Maze or the Tennessee Aquarium and Imax Theater. We attend the Holston Conference youth event, Resurrection, each January. It's a great time for us to boost our faith and spend time (and money) in Gatlinburg. We also serve as counselors for Wonders in the Woods. We have a middle school trip and a high school mission trip each summer. The summer of 2007, our high school youth will be travelling to D'Iberville, MS, to assist in home repair following Hurricane Katrina. Our middle school youth will be attending Junior High Assembly, a Holston Conference event held at Hiwassee College.
