The Unity Center seeks to build hope and opportunity by
promoting educational, social, and spiritual growth for all.

FUTURE ~

FUTURE means Fun at Unity Totally United Reaching for Excellence. The goal of FUTURE is to help students succeed in school and prepare for life. FUTURE utilizes volunteer tutors from local churches, colleges, and high schools to meet with students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Once homework and reading time is completed, students take part in enrichment activities such as woodworking, art, cooking, Bible study, recreation, "Brain Games," and computers. This program is for students in grades 1-6.

FUTURE meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

Community Choir ~

Each spring, students have the option of taking part in Unity Center's Community Choir. The choir meets one night a week after the FUTURE program and a supper provided by volunteers. In 2002, students from Unity's choir joined with other area children's choirs to sing, "The Storytellin' Man," written by Ken Medema, who visited Cleveland to accompany the 160 voice choir in their public performance.

Adult English Classes ~

English as a second language classes (ESL) are offered at Unity Center year-round. These classes use the Rosetta Stone language software and Exploring English books purchased with grant money from the Bishop's Initiative on Poverty. Classes are scheduled in the morning and evenings each week to be convenient for both student and volunteer tutors. A concentration of these students are Hispanic or Ukrainian.

Family Events ~

Unity Center works with the whole family. Each quarter we have at least one event for everyone - moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and neighbors!

Day Camps ~

Summer day camps during June and July keep the students busy and active. Each camp has its own theme and involves activities, reading, and crafts that relate to that theme. These camps have included Spanish Camp, Vacation Bible School, Fit for Life, Music & Arts, Nature, and Fishing Camp.

Day camp programs are free for students, although we accept donations if parents feel able to give.

T
ent Camps ~

The outdoor camping experience is something students look forward to all year long! In both the elementary and Middle School camps, students are paired with an older youth or adult who is their 'camp buddy.'

Outdoor cooking, crafts, Bible Study, worship, hiking, paddleboats, fishing, special trips, and community building all work together to create many lasting memories.
