Children's Learning Center

Children's Learning Center (CLC) is our weekday ministry that serves children ages four months through five years old. CLC meets on Mondays and Wednesday or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. You may choose to send your child one or two days a week. Classes have an excellent teacher-child ratio and seek to enhance learning in a caring, Christian environment.

Crib and Toddler classes promote social skills as well as provide a loving and nurturing place to feel safe leaving your child.

Sunbeam 2 and Rainbow 2 will have fun socializing and completing theme-related art projects. They visit the gym or playground each day. Rainbow 2 attends music class, God's Children Sing, on Thursdays.

In Preschool 1 & 2, literature based themes, hands-on activities, center time, and crafts are what the children will experience on a daily basis. Computer club and gym or playground time is also a daily activity. Spanish class meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. God's Children Sing meets on Mondays and Thursdays.

The Pre-K Class is designed for children who will be attending kindergarten the following school year. The main purpose for this class is to better prepare the children for a successful transition to elementary school. We will focus on social skills as well as developmentally appropriate cognitive and motor skills using a hands-on approach to learning. Computer class and gym or playground time is a daily activity. Spanish class meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. God's Children Sing meets on Mondays and Thursdays.

Sunday School

At Broad Street UMC, we have classes for all children from birth to 6th grade on Sundays at 9:30 am.

Nursery Care

Nursery care is available for all events at Broad Street. During special small-group events, we request that you contact the church office at 476-5586 to help us be aware of your need for child care.

Children's Church

During our 10:45 a.m. service on Sunday mornings, children begin their time in the sanctuary for the beginning of the worship service. Each child will be given a special children's bulletin and activity packet to aid in their understanding of their worship experience. After the "Moments for All God's Children" (Children's Time), children ages three through first Grade are invited to participate in Children's Church.  The Good Shepherd curriculum is used in this setting.  The children hear a Bible story each week and do activities to reinforce the story and basic worship training concepts.   Contact Chrissy Gray at 476-5586 for more information.

Communion Awareness

Training

We offer to first through fourth grade children and their parents an opportunity to learn about the meaning and significance of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. In a fun and informative afternoon workshop setting, children will explore the history and modern practice of Holy Communion.

Communion Awareness Training will be Sunday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. for Kindergarten through 4th graders and their parents or guardians. Please call the church office at 476-5586 to register.

Children's Day

Each spring, the children of the church have an opportunity to participate in the leadership and design of a special Children's Day. In the morning worship services, children will lead litanies and prayers and provide special music and other leadership. A special slide show of all the year's children-oriented activities will be shown during the Sunday School hour and in the evening at a special Church Night Supper. Children's Day is usually held the first Sunday of May.

Acolyte Program

This three-year program is designed for fifth through seventh graders. Our acolytes carry the light of Christ in our worship services. In order to serve in this capacity the participants must attend a training session in the fall.

Bible Explorers

Bible Explorers focuses on teaching children how to use, study, and understand their Bibles. It provides a basic understanding of al the books of the Bible and how to use the Bible as a personal guide.

Confirmation Class

Broad Street UMC offers a yearlong course in basic Christianity using the "Claim the Name" resource. Students in the last half of their 5th grade year begin in February or March with a retreat. Throughout the year children will discover through many activities and experiences our Christian history and their place in the life of the faith community. In the autumn, each student has an adult mentor to aid in their learning process and will enjoy a second retreat in October. In January, students have the opportunity to unite with the church in full membership if they so desire.

Confirmation class provides children with an opportunity to discover who they are as God's children and what their gifts and graces for ministry are.

Vacation Bible School

Each June, Broad Street UMC offers a week-long Vacation Bible School. Through music, drama, puppets, Bible stories, arts & crafts, and many other experiences, children of all ages learn of God's love for them.

Wonders in the Woods

Children's Day Camp is a great way to grow with God by learning about God's creation through nature studies, crafts, recreation, and God's Word. Children's Day Camp is held at Johnston Woods.
